49ers-Panthers inactives: Glenn Dorsey active for first time since ACL tear

The 49ers welcome back their defensive tackle, and made an interesting decision with their offensive line. We break it all down.

The San Francisco 49ers and Carolina Panthers have released their inactives, and Glenn Dorsey is back on the game-day 46. He has not played since tearing his ACL last fall. Given the rotation we see on this defense, he is likely to see some playing time. I don’t expect the team to keep him overly busy in his first game back, but I could see 10-15 snaps.

However many it is, he is a strong addition to the depth chart. The 49ers will face a tough ground game, both with Jonathan Stewart’s rushing, and Cam Newton’s own scrambling. The more quality depth the 49ers can throw at Carolina, the better.

In other news, rookie Joshua Garnett is active for the first time this season. This is a curious decision with both Anthony Davis and John Theus inactive. I am not entirely sure who the team’s swing tackle will be. My guess is Tiller or Garnett, but this is certainly an intriguing decision.

Fooch’s update: Forgot that Zane Beadles played some tackle as a rookie. He likely will be the swing tackle, with Garnett prepared to replace him at left guard.

49ers inactives: QB Christian Ponder, CB Marcus Cromartie, RB DuJuan Harris, DT Tony Jerod-Eddie, OL Anthony Davis, OL John Theus, DT Taylor Hart.

Panthers inactives: QB Joe Webb, WR Damiere Byrd, CB Teddy Williams, RB Cameron Artis-Payne, LB Jared Norris, OL Tyler Larsen, DT Paul Soliai
