Fooch’s update: The total opened at 42 points, but has quickly come down to 40.5 points.
The San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks square off later this week, with both teams standing at 1-1. The 49ers dropped a 46-27 road loss to the Carolina Panthers, while the Seahawks struggled mightily in a 9-3 road loss to the Los Angeles Rams. All four NFC West teams are tied in the division for what will be the second divisional matchup of the season.
The Seahawks will enter this game as favorites, and right now it looks like they will be double digit favorites. The first line for the game at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas has Seattle installed as a 10-point favorite.
When the schedule was released back in late April, CG Technology, which operates several sportsbooks in Las Vegas, released lines for all games in Week 1-16. It was mostly a benchmark to provide a comparison when game week arrived. Back then, the Seahawks were 14 point favorites. I don’t know what the Westgate specifically would have had at the time, but I am guessing Wilson’s ankle injury and the Seahawks early season offensive woes are key factors in the current line placement. The 49ers had a lot of problems in their loss, but the general public might view the game a little bit different. I don’t know for certain, but it could impact the initial line placement.
I would not be surprised to see a decent amount of money on the Seahawks at ten points. Reports on Wilson’s ankle will be worth watching, but I would be surprised if this line closed at ten in one week’s time.
