The San Francisco 49ers rested quite a few starters in their preseason finale. That resulted in a lot of snaps for some notable names. I’ve posted the full snap count below, and you can view the gamebook PDF here. But first, here is a look at players who sat on both sides of the ball.
QB: Blaine Gabbert
RB: Carlos Hyde, Shaun Draughn
WR: Torrey Smith, Quinton Patton, DeAndre Smelter, Bryce Treggs
TE: Vance McDonald, Garrett Celek
OL: Joe Staley, Zane Beadles, Daniel Kilgore, Anthony Davis, Trent Brown, John Theus
DL: Arik Armstead, Quinton Dial, DeForest Buckner, Glenn Dorsey, Mike Purcell
OLB: Ahmad Brooks, Eli Harold
ILB: NaVorro Bowman, Gerald Hodges, Ray-Ray Armstrong, Nick Bellore
CB: Tramaine Brock, Jimmie Ward, Chris Davis, Keith Reaser
S: Eric Reid, Antoine Bethea, Jaquiski Tartt
It is safe to say the 49ers starting offensive line is settled in that group. Ryan Sakamoto tweeted earlier on Thursday that Theus is dealing with a concussion. There has been no discussion of his status by the coaching staff, so we’ll see what next week’s practice participation reports bring.
We’ve got the snap counts, but to add a little context, six players played 100 percent of the offensive or defensive snaps on Thursday. That group included OTs Colin Kelly and Norman Price, C Marcus Martin, ILBs Michael Wilhoite and Shayne Skov, and SS L.J. McCray. When you’re playing a lot of snaps in the preseason finale, that sometimes does not bode well for your roster chances. It is not a lock that you won’t make the team, but it’s not a good thing.
