2016 NFL power rankings, Week 3: The sample size slowly grows

Back down the 49ers go

We’re back for another week of NFL power rankings! Week 2 closed out with the Philadelphia Eagles taking care of business against the Chicago Bears. Philadelphia improved to 2-0, and things are off to a pretty strong start in the Carson Wentz era. I feel like Philly will eventually do something to decimate Eagles fans, but for the time being, they are tied with the New York Giants for first place in the NFC East.

I really wasn’t sure what to do with the 49ers following their Week 2 loss to the Carolina Panthers. I had them No. 1 following a Week 1 win. The loss dropped them to 1-1, which is the record of half the league. I decided to drop them in at No. 20. After only two weeks, it’s not particularly easy figuring out which teams could beat which teams. For the 49ers, road games at Carolina and Seattle will tell us some things, but they are edge cases that don’t necessarily tell us everything. That being said, if the 49ers beat the Seahawks this Sunday, you can bet your butt I’m moving them back up to No.1!

Here are my power rankings heading into Week 3:
