The San Francisco 49ers travel to the Pacific Northwest in Week 3 to face the Seattle Seahawks, renewing a rivalry that has lost some sizzle the last couple years. The 49ers have taken a swan dive to the bottom of the NFC West, while the Seahawks remain in competition for the division title. Seahawks-Cardinals does not have the sizzle that 49ers-Seahawks had in 2012 and 2013, but it is the rivalry that matters right now.
FOX is broadcasting the game, with kickoff set for 1:05 p.m. PT, and they are offering up the No. 2 crew. Kevin Burkhardt and John Lynch are going to be in the booth, with Pam Oliver on the sideline. I had thought this crew was further down the depth chart, but according to Awful Announcing, they are No. 2, behind Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Erin Andrews.
It is possible that with the No. 2 crew, we will get a fairly large broadcast area. The 49ers-Seahawks and Rams-Buccaneers are the only two FOX games in the afternoon. Last week, CBS had the morning and afternoon games, while FOX had the single broadcast option. I believe that means FOX will get two broadcasts on Sunday in markets that do not have their team in the early slot. That would seemingly mean a huge swath of broadcast territory for this game.
I happen to live in Washington, DC, and with Washington facing the Giants, I am guessing we will not get the afternoon game. My fingers remain crossed, but if you get a 10 a.m. FOX game, there is a chance you don’t get either of the afternoon games. We’ll find out on Wednesday.
