Louisiana State University decided to fire long-time head coach Les Miles over the weekend, and speculation about the next head coach is under way. Defensive line coach Ed Orgereon was promoted to interim head coach, but odds are pretty good LSU will make a splash in replacing Miles.
Our friends at Bovada have installed odds on the next head coach, and while University of Houston head coach Tom Herman is the favorite at 5/4, San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly has been installed at 15/1. Here are the full odds Bovada provided for who will be the next head coach at LSU:
Tom Herman: 5/4
Jimbo Fisher: 3/1
Larry Fedora: 4/1
Willie Taggart: 6/1
Ed Orgeron: 9/1
Lane Kiffin: 12/1
Gary Patterson: 15/1
Chip Kelly: 15/1
Bobby Petrino: 18/1
Art Briles: 28/1
I’m surprising Kelly is getting shorter odds than Bobby Petrino. Earlier this week, Petrino said he was happy at Louisville. I figured in Petrino speak that meant he had already had an interview!
But seriously, Kelly would either need to be fired by the 49ers or resign to return to college. The 49ers offensive talent has a lot of question marks, but so much that his frustration would lead to him quitting and returning to college? I wouldn’t put anything past a coach, but it seems unlikely in my mind. That being said, there is certainly some money to be won on this.
