Colin Kaepernick jersey climbs from No. 20 49ers sales to No. 1

Maybe his popularity is returning.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been at the center of controversy following his decision to not stand for the National Anthem. It has resulted in people burning his jersey, and others threatening boycotts. However, as the situation has developed, it is possible he has turned a corner with some fans.

Former Bay Area reporter Mike Rosenberg works in Seattle now, but keeps an eye on 49ers-related news. Earlier today, he tweeted that over the last two weeks Colin Kaepernick had climbed from No. 20 to No. 1 in jersey sales among the San Francisco 49ers.

I do wonder how much of that is because he finally got back on the field, and how much is because of the controversy. My guess is more of the latter, but either way it’s interesting to see him selling jerseys again. Now that he will remain on the 53-man roster for the time being, it will be interesting to see how Kaepernick merchandise sale does on a national level. The NFLPA will have new sales numbers later this fall, so we’ll see what it brings.
