49ers practice squad 2016: Tracking San Francisco’s ten signings

New, comments

The 49ers can sign up to ten players to their practice squad. Here’s the reports coming in.

Fooch’s update: Here’s the official list of signings.

The San Francisco 49ers cut down to 53 players on Saturday, and while we wait for word on their plans for the waiver wire, the practice squad is on our radar. Starting at 10 a.m. PT Sunday, NFL teams are allowed to begin signing players to their 10-man practice squad. I have discussed the rules and listed our eligible players here.

Once waivers runs, any eligible players not claimed can sign to a practice squad. The 49ers will likely lose some of their young talent to waivers, but they will retain a nice chunk of it. We are already starting to see reports from the beat writers. The team will not make them official until later today or tomorrow, but for the time being, we’ll track the reports and rumors. I’ll drop in tweets, and have also embedded the 49ers beat writer Twitter list to follow.

Fooch’s update 10:38 a.m. - Fahn Cooper, Kelvin Taylor joining the practice squad

Fooch’s update 10:23 a.m. - Je’Ron Hamm, Marcus Rush, Dres Anderson per the beat writers

Fooch’s update: Never mind

Matt Maiocco and Eric Branch are both reporting Bryce Treggs will join the practice squad. The receiver suffered a knee injury in the preseason, which Eric Branch is describing as an MCL sprain. He was getting close to returning to game action, so the fact that he was not a waived/injured designation means the knee should be in good shape.
