Fooch’s update: Rapinoe offered some thoughts to her former teammate, Julie Foudy

Colin Kaepernick’s decision to sit and then take a knee during the National Anthem is slowly gaining steam. We saw 49ers free safety Eric Reid and Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane join the protest on Thursday. That was followed by six 5th graders taking a knee during the Pledge of Allegiance. Now, we have a US Women’s soccer team star getting in on the protest.

Megan Rapinoe’s nod to Colin Kaepernick took place during Seattle Reign FC’s match Sunday evening against the Chicago Red Stars. The teams are part of the the National Women’s Soccer League. She tweeted this after the game:

The NFL returns to action on Thursday with the Denver Broncos hosting the Carolina Panthers. The bulk of the Week 1 schedule is set for Sunday, September 11, followed by the 49ers involvement in the Monday Night Football doubleheader. On the one hand, the momentum would seemingly result in more players involved. On the other hand, would they do it on the anniversary of 9/11? The whole thing is getting more and more interesting.
