The San Francisco issued their media release for Week 1 Monday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams, and that includes the unofficial depth chart. The depth chart is compiled by the 49ers PR staff, and while it can include some insight from coaches, it is still rather unofficial.
Here is a screenshot of the depth chart. They list a base front line of Arik Armstead, Mike Purcell (NT), and Quinton Dial, with DeForest Buckner, Glenn Dorsey, and Tony Jerod-Eddie behind them, respectively, and Ronald Blair behind Buckner. There is no mention of Dial as a nose tackle. Defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil will meet with the media later this week, and I’m sure will get some questions about the status of Dial and Dorsey.
The most interesting part lists Gerald Hodges and Ray-Ray Armstrong as co-starters next to NaVorro Bowman. Michael Wilhoite is listed behind them. Considering all the snaps he worked in the preseason finale, I’m guessing that influenced this particular listing.
The secondary shows the usual backup treatment with two players listed as co-backups. Chris Davis is the likely nickel back for the time being, so we can factor that into our own assessments.
On the offensive side of the ball, there are no real surprises across the board.
