The San Francisco 49ers are back at practice on Wednesday, and there is good news on the injury front. The beat writers are reporting that Carlos Hyde is wearing the blue non-contact jersey in practice. This is good news because it means he has progressed forward in the concussion protocol. Offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins seemed to expect Hyde to play this week. He did not specifically say he would, but did indicate he did not expect any surprises on that front.
The concussion protocol requires a player be asymptomatic at rest, and then again after activity. In order to be formally cleared, Hyde will need to be asymptomatic after today’s practice, and then clear a contact test.
Shaun Draughn also took a step forward, as he was not wearing the blue non-contact jersey for his rib injury, according to Matt Barrows. That cost him much of the month of August, but he seems to be back on track. Modkins previously said Draughn is the primary backup at running back. Mike Davis and DuJuan Harris had some strong moments in the preseason, so it will be interesting to see what kind of rotation the 49ers use behind Carlos Hyde.
