Seahawks RG Germain Ifedi suffers potential high ankle sprain, could miss 49ers game

New, comments

The Seahawks offensive line has some issues, and it just added a new one.

The San Francisco 49ers travel up to Seattle in three weeks to face the Seahawks, and they might get a chance at a weakened offensive line. Rookie right guard Germain Ifedi suffered a high ankle sprain in practice on Wednesday, according to Ian Rapoport. The injury could cost him a few weeks.

The 49ers face the Rams in Week 1, and then travel to Carolina in Week 2 before their road game up in Seattle. The 49ers have struggled in Seattle, and any advantage is welcome. The Seahawks moved down to the end of the first round from No. 26 to select Ifedi, looking to boost what has been a consistently poor offensive line. The line has benefited from Russell Wilson’s scrambling ability, so this is not devastating to the Seahawks, but rotating in veteran J’Marcus Webb is viewed as a downgrade at the position.

The 49ers defensive line is dealing with some injuries heading into Week 1, with Quinton Dial and Arik Armstead expected to play, but likely to show up on the injury report. Glenn Dorsey is also going to be on the injury report, and is a likely Week 1 inactive. But if the team can be closer to full strength against the Seahawks, I’m excited to see what Armstead, Dial, DeForest Buckner and the rest of the interior group can do against the Seahawks line. It might not net a win, but it could be at least a little more entertaining that what we’ve seen in recent years.
