Glenn Dorsey DNP at practice after Chip Kelly says he expects him to be on track for MNF

Chip Kelly offered some optimism about Glenn Dorsey’s status for the 49ers-Rams season opener. The practice report dunked that optimism in a bucket of cold water.

The San Francisco 49ers defensive line is a potential strength for the 2016 season, but depth could be a concern early in the season. Glenn Dorsey has been rehabbing his torn ACL all offseason, and has not taken part in team drills, accordin to defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil. That continued on Thursday, as he was listed in the first practice participation report of the season as “Did Not Participate.”

Earlier in the day, head coach Chip Kelly said he thinks Dorsey remains on track to be available for Week 1 Monday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams. He did acknowledge things can change during the week, which is why he would not commit further to it. And so, it would be no surprise if Dorsey was a healthy scratch on Monday.

There was a little bit of good news from Thursday’s report. Arik Armstead and Quinton Dial were back at practice, both listed as limited participants. The 49ers will release two more participation reports on Friday and Saturday. Whether they advance to full participants or not, my guess is they will be listed as questionable on the final injury report. But for now they would seem to be on a better track than Glenn Dorsey.
