The San Francisco 49ers interviewed Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott on Tuesday morning, but it would appear likely there will be no follow-up interview. The Buffalo Bills also interviewed McDermott, and they have reportedly decided he is the guy they want to focus in on. Bills writer Vic Carucci was first to report on it, but we have had some follow-up reports as well.
#Bills are zeroed in on Sean McDermott as their next HC. Could have something finalized in the next day or so.

There are very positive talks between the #Bills and Sean McDermott (as @viccarucci said) but still issues to sort out, source says.

They haven't kept in contact with the other candidates. McDermott appears to be the favorite https://t.co/XeYgMoNBvX

McDermott interviewed with the 49ers, but we have not heard any real mention of him as someone Jed York and Paraag Marathe would focus in on. He and Vance Joseph are the two defensive coaches on the interview list. The rest are offensive coaches, including several coordinators, and Tom Cable.
Of particular note, this would put Bills interim head coach and offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn into play for the 49ers and several other teams. The process is still in the first interview phase for everybody else, but that will be something to track.
