Now that the NFL coaches have been hired and the few the San Francisco 49ers are eyeing have entered the playoffs, things are finally settling down. It’s not near as bad as those dead moments in February but it’s time to start eyeing the draft, the next season, and eagerly await who’s going to run things in a week or two.
It’s time for me to trade-in my copy of Madden. Around this time, Madden’s trade value tends to liquefy, going down by two dollars every hour or so. So I took mine in and rather than get in-store credit, I threw money down for a Nintendo Switch. I watched the presser Thursday night showing off the hardware and lineup, and I have to say, I haven’t been this excited for a game console since the PlayStation 2. Now there’s always the option to scalp it, I mean Nintendo has a habit of not meeting demand with their products, but I don’t know if I even will.
What does this have to do with the 49ers? Well the same excitement I had for a video game console (and most of you know, getting me excited for a video game/console is like trying to get a Disney Land employee excited for Space Mountain) I’m having for the 49ers. The only way any of this gets killed is a Tom Cable/Tom Gamble hire. I really trust that that ISN’T going to happen. Shanahan? McDaniels? Hate/like the future hire of the 49ers all you want, this is actually me not trying to convince myself that this is great. Chip Kelly’s hire last year had me saying “Well, they are on the right track,” but it still didnt’ feel right.
To reference video games again, it’s like when in 1st grade I asked for an original Nintendo and got a Super Mario Bros. board game instead. Sure, I try to convince myself it’s as good as what I originally wanted, but it’s not the same thing. I’m legitimately excited where this team is headed. And everyone else should be too. The 49ers are making some good moves with this hiring search this year. Hopefully it pays off. Either way, they have me hopeful for the future.
OK, yeah. I wanted to talk video games in a post too. You got me. I love, live and breathe that stuff. Onto the links!
