The Seattle Seahawks seemed all set to give the Atlanta Falcons a tough game in the divisional round of the 2017 NFL Playoffs, but the Falcons offense made sure that ended fairly quickly. The Falcons beat the Seahawks by a final score of 36-20, advancing to the 2017 NFC title game. The Falcons will play the winner of Sunday’s game between the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys.
The Falcons execution was quite impressive, but many 49ers fans will be further enamored by the game plan offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan put together. And considering it was against the 49ers most notable division rival, it looks all the better.
Shanahan found mismatches, and set up the offense for success. If he were to become the next head coach of the 49ers, he would not have Matt Ryan and Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. But that is no reason to get at least a little irrationally excited about the possibilities down the road.
The 49ers face a long rebuilding process, and it possible Shanahan will never work as a head coach (in San Francisco, or wherever). And of course, with Tom Cable available, the Seahawks could still figure out a way to screw the 49ers even in a loss. But in the meantime, I’ll just close with this amusing tweet:
