NN 2017 NFL mock draft database: Jonathan Allen remains in the No. 1 conversation

New, comments

The 49ers have numerous questions, but Allen could prove to be a BPA option.

The 2017 East-West Shrine Game and NFLPA Collegiate Bowl each get going later today, marking the first two of the three notable college all star games. The pre-draft process is in full swing, which means we are settling into the mock draft season. And for the time being, it is going to be pretty similar picks.

I updated the NN mock draft database, and Myles Garrett remains the overwhelming No. 1 pick. It is interesting to note that four of the 19 mock drafts have Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen going to the Browns. In all four, the San Francisco 49ers then jump on Texas A&M pass rusher Myles Garrett.

Among the 15 mock drafts with Myles Garrett going No. 1, eight have the 49ers picking Mitch Trubisky. I don’t anticipate it being different anytime soon, but I am curious what we see of Jonathan Allen over the next few months. The 49ers have spent first round picks on defensive linemen DeForest Buckner and Arik Armstead the past two years. Would they go defensive line a third straight year, or will they look another direction? Allen could be the best option, but it’s hard to predict with question still surrounding the front office and coaching staff.
