Colin Kaepernick spent first day of offseason giving out clothing, bedding, books to shelters, orphanages

It was a busy Monday for the 49ers quarterback.

The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their 2016 season on Sunday, and on Monday, quarterback Colin Kaepernick was keeping busy. He spent part of the day going to shelters and orphanages to donate a variety of materials. He passed along books, clothing, bedding, and more, and the Know Your Rights Camp Instagram account has a couple videos from the day.

Kaepernick has been under the microscope since his decision to take a knee back in August. He followed that up with the beginning of a series of donations that will total $1 million, and held a “Know Your Rights” camp with Bay Area at-risk youth. There will continue to be complaints about Kaepernick’s protest, but he has continued to back it up off the field with his actions.

Next month, Kaepernick can elect to become a free agent. His future with the 49ers is entirely uncertain in light of the team’s decision to fire general manager Trent Baalke and head coach Chip Kelly. It will be interesting to see what we hear after the coach and GM are hired, and as we approach the deadline for Kaepernick to opt out. I think he ends up opting out in part because of the week QB free agency class. I’ve been plenty wrong about his future over the past year, so who knows what will actually happen.
