The San Francisco 49ers and general manager John Lynch appear to have one of his deputies identified. The 49ers are set to interview Denver Broncos director of college scouting Adam Peters for the director of player personnel role, according to Pro Football Talk.
Tom Gamble is currently listed as the assistant general manager, and is effectively “trying out for his job” between now and the 2017 NFL Draft. If the 49ers hire Peters, he would serve as a primary deputy for Lynch. The director of player personnel oversees both college and pro scouting. The 49ers director of college scouting is Matt Malaspina, and their director of pro personnel is Mike Williams. Barring any change sin either job, they would report to Peters (or whomever gets the job). Peters would then likely report to Lynch.
Lynch is close with John Elway, describing him today as one of his closest friends. Peters has served as Broncos director of college scouting this past year. Prior to that he spent two years as assistant director of college scouting, three years as their national scout, and two years as western regional scout. He was promoted to national scout around when Elway took over as general manager. He started his career with the New England Patriots as a scouting assistant for two years, pro scout for one year, and college scout for one year.
