NFL power rankings, 2017: Heading into Week 6, this is getting a little ridiculous

We’re back with 2017 NFL power rankings following the fifth week of the season. Wash, rinse, repeat for the 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers once again came up short, marking the fourth straight week they’ve lost by a field goal or less. I really am running out of ways to describe this. I do like that they are competitive on a regular basis, but close losses can get a little old at times. And now, they head to Washington in hopes of finding win number one, entering as a sizable underdog.

We’re back with Week 6 of our 2017 NFL power rankings. We’ll have a round-up of media power rankings, but as we’ve been doing, I thought that once again we’d offer our own version. It is entirely my opinion, so there will be plenty of disagreement.

I bumped the 49ers down with the remaining winless teams, but I’ll keep them ahead of the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns for the time being. The 49ers and Giants square off in Week 10 at Levi’s Stadium, so that will give us some clarity for part of the bottom of the rankings.

One team I remain unsure about is the New York Jets. They beat the Browns to improve to 3-2, and have won three straight over the Browns, Jaguars, and Dolphins. I think the Jaguars win is looking like the most impressive, but still, what the heck am I supposed to think about the J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS? I keep bumping them up, but they remain the lowest ranked 3-2 squad on my rankings.

At the top, the Kansas City Chiefs hold it down with another big win. They went into Houston and held off the Texans in a shootout. They got another solid game from Kareem Hunt, but Alex Smith boosted his MVP credentials in the win. He threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns. He has the most touchdowns to no interceptions through five games in NFL history, and is just chugging along

On to the Week 6 power rankings!
