49ers add defensive lineman to practice squad

The 49ers have signed Jeremy Liggins to the practice squad.

The San Francisco 49ers signed defensive lineman Jeremy Liggins to the practice squad, the team announced on Tuesday. It was previously reported that they had released another defensive lineman, Noble Nwachukwu, from the practice squad on Monday and this is the corresponding move.

Some thought the 49ers would be adding safety Lorenzo Jerome to the practice squad after they released him from the active roster That could still happen, as Jerome has cleared waivers, but so far there’s no sign that it’s going to.

Liggins is an undrafted rookie just like Nwachukwu. Liggins is significantly larger than Nwachukwu, and would be one of the wider bodies in the organization, a value asset for the scout team. Liggins was originally signed by the Seattle Seahawks on May 12, but was waived on Sept. 2.

At Mississippi, Liggins played in 28 games at tight end, wildcat quarterback and offensive line, so he’s had ... an interesting road to being a defensive lineman.
