Apparently eight days was enough for the San Francisco 49ers to decide it was time to move on from cornerback Leon Hall. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport tweeted that the 49ers are going to release the veteran. The 49ers signed him after placing Asa Jackson on injured reserve.
Hall was inactive in his first game with the team. Based on how things shook out, it feels like the signing was due to Ahkello Witherspoon’s concussion the previous week. Witherspoon played this past week, and got in a healthy 34 snaps. He was a regular rotation alongside Rashard Robinson and Dontae Johnson. At times we saw Witherspoon playing with Robinson, and at other times we saw him paired with Johnson.
It would seem the team has grown impressed with his abilities, and is comfortable sticking with him as the primary backup moving forward. And if injuries happen, players like Hall will remain available in free agency as needed.
