The Philadelphia Eagles host Washington tonight on Monday Night Football, and the conclusion of that game will bring the 49ers-Eagles opening line for most sports books. Generally, sports books wait until both teams have wrapped up their previous week game since injuries and other issues can shake things up.
However, there is a look-ahead line available to help us understand where things stand. A look-ahead line is offered up before the prior week’s game. It is a helpful benchmark to see what sharp bettors might be looking to do when the official line is released.
Our friends at the Bet The Board podcast have the Westgate Superbook look-ahead line for 49ers-Eagles, and it is sizable. The Eagles are viewed as a 10.5-point favorite. That is not entirely surprising, although it could end up higher.
Our friends at Odds Shark have a look at a bunch of sportsbook lines, and a couple actually already opened. At 5 Dimes and Sportbet, you can get the Eagles at -12. If the Eagles either win or don’t lose by too much tonight against Washington, and walk away relatively healthy, I could see this line climbing to 12 or more at most sportsbooks.
I jumped on the 49ers cover bandwagon in Week 7, and was burned badly. The 49ers are not a good football team, and losing Arik Armstead is big for this defense. Reuben Foster will have a week under his belt, although we have to wait and see what his rib injury means. On the other side of the ball, expect plenty of pressure from the Eagles defense against the rookie quarterback. Philadelphia has been solid enough on defense, and will present an all-around challenge for the 49ers in Week 8.
