I was starting to wonder how much longer the San Francisco 49ers might keep up their run of close losses. I guess we did not have to wait very long. The 49ers were thumped by the Dallas Cowboys, and that certainly dashed hopes for the sort term. The 49ers still have a lot of issues to deal with, and it does not get any easier this coming week when they travel to face the Philadelphia Eagles.
We’re back with Week 8 of our 2017 NFL power rankings. We’ll have a round-up of media power rankings later today, but in the meantime, I thought I would put together my own thoughts on the state of the league. I’m sure plenty will disagree, and even I am not entirely sure about some of mine. I should create some video arguing with myself.
The 49ers and Cleveland Browns continue to bring up the rear in my rankings. They both remain winless, and neither is looking like they’ll get off the schneid anytime soon. I don’t think we’ll have a pair of 0-16 teams, or even one, but both seem prepared to give ignominy a run for its money. They’re just behind the New York Giants, who followed up a big road win over the Denver Broncos with an ugly second half against the Seattle Seahawks.
On the top end of things, the Philadelphia Eagles remain up top, while the Kansas City Chiefs drop following their Thursday Night Football loss to the Oakland Raiders. After the one-loss and two-loss teams, there are a host of three and four loss teams. It’s hard to sort through a lot of them. A quality team this week will look bad next week, and a team looking bad this week will bounce back next week. It’s hard to figure out what to make of the NFL outside of the top few and bottom few teams.
