The San Francisco 49ers are back on the road this week to face the Philadelphia Eagles, and it’s safe to say expectations are pretty low. Following the Eagles big Monday Night Football win over Washington, oddsmakers have installed them as a 13-point favorite against the 49ers, according to Odds Shark.
Prior to Week 7 action, the lookahead line was set at Eagles -10.5. The Eagles struggled early against Washington and finished strong. I figured we would not see a huge change in the line, but I am guessing a big divisional win has oddsmakers figuring the public will go heavy on the Eagles any lower. The line is set to try and get even money bet on both sides, so they felt compelled to bump it higher to cover for that.
The 49ers had covered the spread in four of their past five games and lost by a field goal or less in five straight games prior to Sunday’s ugly loss to Dallas. I am generally not one to take a team laying double digit points. I did it when the Seahawks hosted the 49ers and got burned.
Can the 49ers cover in Philadelphia and keep this close? The Eagles are coming off back-to-back games that were pretty huge. They went into Carolina and won last week, and then took care of business at home against Washington on Sunday, in a huge divisional matchup. Philly is playing great football right now, but could they be due for a letdown?
