49ers announce Datone Jones, Leon Hall signings

The 49ers need depth following multiple injuries.

The San Francisco 49ers announced a pair of roster moves on Tuesday. The team signed defensive lineman Datone Jones and cornerback Leon Hall. To make room for them, they released defensive tackle Xavier Cooper and tight end Logan Paulsen.

Jones agreed to his contract on Monday, and will compete as a depth option along a beleaguered defensive line. Arik Armstead was lost for the season in Week 6. Leger Douzable got the start at defensive end last week, but the team was clearly not happy with Cooper on the inside. Jones entered the NFL as a first round pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2013.

The Hall signing comes following Kyle Shanahan informing the media that nickel back K’Waun Williams is questionable for Sunday, and unlikely to play. The 49ers gave Jimmie Ward some slot work against the Cowboys after Williams got hurt. Hall will give them much needed depth while Williams is out.
