Fantasy football rankings, Week 8: The 49ers might 2 viable fantasy receivers

The offense has some work to do, but we’re seeing some development

NFL: Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco 49ers Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers offense has been inconsistent at best this season, but Pierre Garçon has been incredibly solid through seven weeks. He is averaging a little over five receptions and 69 yards per game. He has yet to find the end zone, but his rock solid hands have been critical in the 49ers closer games.

Garçon remains a strong fantasy football option, even as the rest of the offense flounders at times. He is a great PPR option, but he is also solid enough in standard leagues to get a nod in flex and occasional WR2 spots. In SB Nation’s Week 8 fantasy football rankings, he is ranked No. 15 in standard formats, and No. 13 in PPR formats.

While Garçon has been the go-to guy, one could argue Marquise Goodwin has moved into at least flier territory. The drops are maddening, and he remains inconsistent, but he has surpassed 60 yards receiving in three of his past five games, including 80 yards last week against Dallas, and 116 yards two weeks prior against Indianapolis.

He too has yet to reach the end zone, but not for lack of opportunities. Per ESPN, only six players have exceeded his six end zone targets. They have a stat called opportunity-adjusted touchdowns. It “weighs every carry/target and converts the data into one number that indicates a player's scoring opportunity.” Goodwin’s OTD is 3.1, which means a league-average player who saw the same number of carries/targets in the same area of the field would have scored 3.1 touchdowns. It’s among the highest in the league, which suggests there could be some regression in his future. Goodwin currently ranks No. 42 at SB Nation in both formats, but there is sleeper potential.

Here is the full rundown of where 49ers players rank in SB Nation’s rankings:

QB C.J. Beathard: 24
RB Carlos Hyde: 9 (standard), 10 (PPR)
RB Matt Breida: 46 (standard & PPR)
WR Pierre Garçon: 15 (standard), 13 (PPR)
WR Marquise Goodwin: 42 (standard & PPR)
TE George Kittle: 10
