The San Francisco 49ers were pummeled in Week 7, losing 40-10 to the Dallas Cowboys, and snapping their five-game streak of losing by a field goal or less. The 49ers are not good enough to overcome mistakes, which we saw in their five straight close losses. Their ugly loss to Dallas showed that when you pile up those mistakes, coupled with some talent question marks, things get ugly in a hurry.
This week, the 49ers travel to face the Philadelphia Eagles. Philly is on fire right now, coming off back-to-back wins over the Carolina Panthers and Washington to improve to 6-1. They’re playing great football, and it is no surprise that most people are picking them to win this game.
I took a look around the media for Week 8 picks, and I actually came across two people who think the 49ers can spring the upset. CBS Sports columnists Jason La Canfora and Will Brinson picked the 49ers straight up to win this game. Maybe they’ll have second thoughts at some point heading into the weekend, but picking the 49ers this weekend is bold. The Eagles could very well have a letdown and overlook the 49ers, but given the talent and performance disparity, it’s going to be a tough one for San Francisco.
