The San Francisco 49ers have lost free safety Jimmie Ward for the rest of their Week 8 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Ward suffered a forearm injury in the first quarter, and after initially being ruled questionable to return, has been downgraded to out in the second quarter.
Rookie Adrian Colbert replaced Ward in the secondary, and will finish out the game. The defense has gotten off to a solid start against the Eagles, holding them to a first quarter field goal. The Eagles will surely look to challenge Colbert in his new centerfield role.
Kyle Shanahan will meet with the media after the game, but we likely will not get a firm answer on Ward’s status until Monday. This hurts at free safety, but also hurts in slot coverage with K’Waun Williams missing today’s game as well.
