The San Francisco 49ers injury report is a lengthy one, and the most notable news might still be to come. Joe Staley left the 49ers Week 8 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the second quarter with an eye injury. He had stitches on a noticeable gash under his eye, and now he is also getting an x-ray on his orbital bone.
Kyle Shanahan said he was getting it looked at, and the beat writers reported Staley was transported to a nearby hospital to get it checked out. The 49ers were able to get Jimmie Ward’s broken arm diagnosed at the stadium, but it sounds like they need something else to get Staley’s eye injury figured out.
If Staley does have a fracture to his orbital bone, that would be a huge blow to the 49ers offensive line. It would not necessarily end Staley’s season, but it would keep him out of action for a while. At the same time, we’ll have to wait on an update. The 49ers should know if the x-rays are positive or negative before they depart back for Santa Clara, but we’ll see if it leaks out before Kyle Shanahan meets with the media on Monday.
