The San Francisco 49ers will host defensive back DeRon Washington on Tuesday, per a report from NFL Draft Diamonds. Washington is a former Pittsburg State defensive back who was signed by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent.

He can play most defensive back positions, but he primarily played safety at Pittsburg State. He had 60 tackles (two for loss), two interceptions, three passes deflected and two forced fumbles in his senior season in college.

Washington was not invited to the NFL Combine, as noted in the report, but he did well at his pro day, posting a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash and bench pressing 225 pounds 23 times.

The 49ers have injuries in the secondary, specifically to Eric Reid, dealing with a PCL injury. Then there’s Jaquiski Tartt, who has been banged up through the first few games of the season.

Things aren’t peachy at cornerback either, if the 49ers were looking at Washington in that capacity. There aren’t significant cornerback injuries, it’s just a position that has been exceedingly poor for the 49ers this season.

Washington was cut by the Falcons as part of pre-regular season roster cuts.
