San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Pierre Garçon has looked great catching the ball this year, generally out-performing fan expectations through eight games. But he’s been catching passes from the likes of Brian Hoyer and C.J. Beathard ... until now.
Starting in the next couple weeks, he’ll be catching passes from Jimmy Garoppolo, the newest 49ers quarterback after they traded a second-round pick to the New England Patriots for him on Monday.
And how does Garçon feel about the trade and the potential new franchise quarterback for the 49ers? Let’s ask him:
Seems like he feels pretty good about it!
Garçon, 31, joined the 49ers as one of their marquee free agent additions this offseason and he’s made some incredible catches in his short time with the team. He’s made multiple toe-tapping catches on the sidelines, and with a better quarterback would really be in the midst of a fantastic season.
But with lacking quarterback play, he’s caught just 40 of the 67 passes thrown his way for 500 yards and no touchdowns. Last season, with Washington, he caught 79 passes for 1,041 yards and three touchdowns. He’s on target to be right about there this season, but hopefully Garoppolo can squeeze more than that out of him going forward.
