The San Francisco 49ers have formally announced their trade for New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. They confirmed the deal includes their second round pick, and will be formally executed when Garoppolo passes his physical.

General manager John Lynch included a statement with the announcement, and naturally he said the 49ers are “thrilled” to acquire Garoppolo. Lynch said he and Kyle Shanahan have researched him extensively and believe that in limited action he has displayed what is needed to be a successful quarterback in the NFL. Here’s his full statement.

“We are thrilled for Jimmy to join the 49ers family. Jimmy is a player we have researched extensively since Kyle and I joined the 49ers. I am extremely pleased this came together today and we all think it is a big win for our organization. Albeit in limited game action, Jimmy has displayed the characteristics and traits that we believe are vital to being a successful quarterback in this league. He has had the rare opportunity to sit and learn from a future Hall of Fame quarterback in a championship atmosphere. We look forward to Jimmy joining the team tomorrow and hitting the ground running.”

The 49ers will hold a press conference later on Tuesday to formally introduce their new quarterback. The time will be announced later today.
