The San Francisco 49ers will issue their final injury report this afternoon for Week 5, and linebacker Reuben Foster and safety Eric Reid will be out for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. However, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan during his bi-weekly KNBR interview, it’s possible we could see them practicing for and playing against Washington next week (h/t Cam Inman).
The 49ers will conduct their first Week 6 practice next Wednesday, at which point we’ll see what the injury report says. Reid and Foster have been DNPs since their injuries, and remain so this week. They have been warming up with the team this week, but not taking part in the actual practice session this week. If we see them start to get limited work, it will be a huge step forward.
Getting Foster and Reid back will be undeniably huge for the defense. Aside from DeForest Buckner, those two were looking like the biggest contributors to this new-look defense. We have seen the defense make strides without them, but getting them back on the field will be a huge deal.
