The San Francisco 49ers currently sit at 0-4, and in the midst of a three-game road trip. They are slight underdogs to the Indianapolis Colts this weekend, and will likely be a sizable underdog heading into Washington next week. They have a chance to get a win out of these remaining two games, but 0-6 heading home from the three-game road trip would not be the most shocking result.
People want to see wins, but for the time being, the 49ers find themselves in firm competition for the top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. They are currently tied with the Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, and New York Giants. The Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, and Cincinnati Bengals all sit at 1-3, and the Miami Dolphins are 1-2. So who will end up with the top pick?
Football Outsiders recently updated their various odds, and along with playoff odds, they have top pick and top five pick odds. The Browns are heavy favorites to claim the No. 1 pick, and have all but locked up a top five pick. The 49ers are second in No. 1 overall pick odds, and have a strong chance at a top five pick. Here are the top ten teams in the odds.
1. Browns: 49.8 percent, 90.5 percent
2. 49ers: 17.1 percent, 68.2 percent
3. Giants: 8.4 percent, 51.2 percent
4. Colts: 6.0 percent, 47.0 percent
5. Bears: 4.5 percent, 41.0 percent
6. Chargers: 5.0 percent, 40.0 percent
7. Dolphins: 3.8 percent, 37.4 percent
8. Jets: 1.4 percent, 22.8 percent
9. Cardinals: 1.0 percent, 19.0 percent
10. Bengals: 0.9 percent, 16.1 percent
This weekend features a big weekend for draft positioning. The winless Giants and Chargers square off, while the winless Browns host the 2-2 Jets. And of course, the 49ers are traveling to face the 1-3 Colts. There is a ton of football left, so this weekend won’t decide the draft order race. But I don’t recall many weekends with this many bad teams facing off at the same time.
