We are back for Week 5 Sunday, and the San Francisco 49ers will get us going early today. They face the Indianapolis Colts, with kickoff set for 10 a.m. PT. This marks their first 10 a.m. game, and they will play two more of them over the next three weeks. It is yet another challenge for a team looking to get their first victory of the season.
At 0-4, the 49ers are all but out of the playoff race, and the focus turns to where they will be situated in the draft. While we won’t root for 49ers losses (we’ll see what the last couple weeks bring!), we can root for other teams to lose. With that in mind, it’s time for our Week 5 rooting guide. This is primarily draft related, but there are some non-draft games to consider.
Jets (2-2) @ Browns (0-4): Browns - The Jets sit at a surprising 2-2, while the Browns remain winless. Simple choice here.
Bills (3-1) @ Bengals (1-3): Bengals - The Bengals are scuffling along, but did manage their first win last week. The Bills hold a surprising AFC West lead.
Chargers (0-4) @ Giants (0-4): Giants - The 49ers host the Giants later this year, and that is a big chance for a 49ers win. Might as well get the Giants a win now.
Titans (2-2) @ Dolphins (1-2): Dolphins - The Dolphins are looking pretty bad this year.
Vikings (2-2 @ Bears (1-3): Bears - The Mitchell Trubisky era begins!
Seahawks (2-2) @ Rams (3-1): Rams - On the one hand, I’m always down to see Seattle lose. On the other hand, with a potential changing of the guard, there could be a new top dog in the NFC West this year. I’m still rooting for the Rams in this one, but it’s a fascinating one.
