Niners Nation DOOM Index: Post-Week 5 loss to the Colts edition

How doomed are the 0-5 49ers?

The San Francisco 49ers are trapped in a Sisyphean nightmare, forever recovering from a deficit, nearly making a comeback and ultimately losing by a handful of points. They have put together several intensely laborious but ultimately futile performances, each time straining all the same but coming up short all the same.

I’m not sure if the 49ers, on a cosmic level, are being punished for some self-aggrandizing sin like the classic king of Corinth, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find out there’s a larger benevolent force at work. They fell short of beating the Indianapolis Colts, in overtime, on Sunday. The Colts won the game, 26-23.

The 49ers, you see, are doomed. We are doomed as well. Brian Hoyer is incredibly doomed. NaVorro Bowman seems to be getting more and more doomed. Joe Staley was even doomed on Sunday, and that’s concerning.

We’ll have a lot more to say about this game going forward. But for now, let’s just get right to our extremely scientific and infallible poll.

As always, you can view past results at this Imgur gallery right here. Last week, 44 percent of voters went with the “most doomed” option, with just 3 percent (28 votes) going with “least doomed.” Another 31 percent went with the “pretty doomed” option so things are pretty definitively slanted in the corner of outright doom and gloom.
