49ers targeting Week 12 vs. Seahawks for Jimmy Garoppolo’s first start, per report

Not surprising news, but still notable.

The San Francisco 49ers face the New York Giants Sunday afternoon, with C.J. Beathard getting the starting nod. This could also be Beathard’s last start this season for the 49ers. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting the 49ers are targeting Week 12 against the Seattle Seahawks for Jimmy Garoppolo’s first start.

This is not exactly shocking news. When the 49ers first acquired Garoppolo, many folks thought after the bye week made the most sense. Joe Staley was hurt at the time, and the injury report as a whole was a mess. With Beathard getting beaten up on a regular basis, it made sense to wait and see how things looked after the bye.

More importantly, it gives Garoppolo two game weeks and a bye week to get more comfortable with the playbook. The coming bye week will give Garoppolo, Kyle Shanahan, and Rich Scangarello plenty of direct time before game-planning really picks up for the Seahawks game.
