The San Francisco 49ers are as doomed today as they were this time a week ago, at least as far as my dark ruminations are concerned. Sometimes it’s difficult for me to see through the chaos, so a win over the New York Giants hasn’t moved the needle as it has for some.
Don’t get me wrong — as much as my dead little heart can swell for the 49ers in 2017, it certainly did every time they scored on Sunday — but the franchise is in very much the same position now as it has been for some time. We, as a fanbase and they, as a franchise, still need to see what Jimmy Garoppolo has to offer before they are faced with decisions in free agency and the 2018 NFL Draft.
Until then, I’m not prepared to call the team any more or less doomed. Then again, Adrian Colbert is hurt, and that really sucks after he had such a promising first start to his career. Hopefully, he can return in time for the game against the Seattle Seahawks, and if not, I hope he only misses that game.
Either way, the 49ers are still doomed. I’m still doomed. You’re still doomed. Sometimes it’s actually hard for me to harp on the doomness because we’re so undeniably doomed. We’re going to go light on the doom this week, and just dive right in.
