The San Francisco 49ers made a couple roster moves on Monday as they head into their bye week. The team released defensive lineman Tony McDaniel, and placed practice squad offensive lineman J.P. Flynn.
The McDaniel release likely will coincide with the return of Tank Carradine. The 49ers placed Carradine on injured reserve after Week 3, and he is eligible to return for Week 12 against the Seattle Seahawks. He has been practicing the past week, and will continue practicing this coming week. The official move off IR will come sometime later next week leading up to the game.
McDaniel was a solid reserve option, rotating in after the starters. However, with Carradine coming back from IR, and Solomon Thomas likely back from his MCL sprain, the 49ers could afford to shed some defensive line depth. Head coach Kyle Shanahan will meet with the media at 4:30 p.m. today, and will likely have some comments on the move.
