NFL: New York Giants at San Francisco 49ers Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Winless no longer! The 49ers beat the New York Giants 31-21 on Sunday and gave Kyle Shanahan and GM John Lynch their 1st wins. The team had fought all season long and had a few opportunities to secure wins earlier in the season, but were unable to do it. With a franchise-worst 9 loss start to the season, they were finally able to celebrate a victory behind C.J. Beathard’s good performance.

C.J. may have pushed back Jimmy Garappolo’s debut with his performance on Sunday. C.J. threw for 288 yards and 2 touchdowns, while only throwing 6 incompletions. C.J. threw a 83 yard TD to WR Marquise Goodwin, a 47 yard TD to tight end Garrett Celek, and ran one in. The touchdown to Marquise came on a tough day for him. He announced on social media after the game a complication during pregnancy resulted in him and his wife losing their child earlier in the day. Marquise told Kyle that he wanted to play and Kyle let him play.

The defense was led by the young players. Rookie cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon allowed only 24 yards passing, rookie linebacker Reuben Foster recorded 10 tackles and rookie Adrian Colbert, in place of injured safeties Tartt and Ward, made plays all over the field to go with his 4 tackles. Unfortunately, Colbert fractured his thumb and could result in him missing some time at a position where the 49ers are thin. The young players will have enough playing time coming up to give 49ers’ coaches and fans hope for the future.
