The Houston Texans suffered a devastating loss on Thursday, as quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a torn ACL on a non-contact play. He is done for the season, and quarterback Tom Savage returns to the starting lineup. Houston signed Matt McGloin to serve as his backup.
The 49ers travel to face the Texans in Week 14, and what was looking like a sure loss is now a bit more of a toss-up. The Texans still have a strong defense, but their offense takes a huge hit with this loss. McGloin knows Bill O’Brien from college, although that was back in 2012. I suppose he likely still knows what O’Brien likes, so with only three days until their Week 9 contest, that’s something, I guess.
The Texans are 3-4 and a game back of first in the AFC South, so we’ll see if they take a look at Colin Kaepernick at some point. Although, given what Bob McNair had to say and the problems in the locker room, I’m not holding my breath. Although, I suppose signing Kaepernick is certainly one way to offer an olive branch to the players!
Personally, I was looking forward to seeing the 49ers defense take on Watson. Even if he lit them up, I enjoy watching special players play. And Watson was turning into a special NFL player this year.
