The San Francisco 49ers currently hold the No. 2 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft following the New York Giants win over the Kansas City Chiefs. They could move around a few spots, but for the time being, the 49ers are locked in there, right behind the Cleveland Browns.
The latest round of 2018 NFL mock drafts are coming out, and things have not changed much for the 49ers pick. Bleacher Report offered up their latest mock draft, and they have the 49ers picking Penn State running back Saquon Barkley. Here is the top five in their mock draft:
1. Cleveland Browns: Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
2. San Francisco 49ers: Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State
3. New York Giants: Quenton Nelson, OG, Notre Dame
4. Denver Broncos: Connor Williams, OT, Texas
5. Indianapolis Colts: Bradley Chubb, DE, North Carolina State
They have Sam Darnold going No. 10 to the Arizona Cardinals, Josh Allen going No. 12 to the New York Jets, and Lamar Jackson going No. 17 to the Buffalo Bills.
If the 49ers finish the season with the No. 2 pick, is it safe to say we will see mostly Saquon Barkley picks? Most mock drafts do not consider trades. If the 49ers are sitting at No. 2, a trade could probe more likely than a Barkley pick. But in the meantime, our mock draft database might end up being kinda dull.
This is not to say Barkley to the 49ers won’t happen. The 49ers could lose Carlos Hyde to free agency, and that would leave them with Matt Breida, Joe Williams, and Raheem Mostert. Barkley is getting a ton of praise, but would Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch look at him as the kind of franchise-altering player they would want at No. 2?
