John Lynch: C.J. Beathard played well last week, Kyle Shanahan will make QB decision for Sunday

The 49ers are playing their cards close to the vest with regard to the quarterback position.

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch met with the media on Tuesday, and naturally he was asked about the quarterback position. Lynch said C.J. Beathard played well against the New York Giants, but the quarterback decision would be up to head coach Kyle Shanahan (via @mattbarrows). The GM also said Garoppolo spent extensive time at the 49ers facility during the bye week, and is making good progress.

The team has not pushed too hard on this publicly, and seems comfortable playing the long game with it. Shanahan will meet with the media on Wednesday to kick off the formal practice week. I would be surprised if he made an announcement on Wednesday, and they very well could decide to wait until game day to make it official.

Wednesday’s practice will bring with it the regular starting quarterback press conference. Two weeks ago, both Beathard and Garoppolo met with the media, and my guess is we see the same thing tomorrow. In the meantime, it’s poll time. Who do you think starts on Sunday for the 49ers?
