Happy Thanksgiving! Hope everyone is ready to enjoy a lot of food and football on what remains my favorite holiday of the year. Eating food and watching football, with no real responsibilities? Yes, please!
The San Francisco 49ers are back from their bye week and preparing to host the Seattle Seahawks. The 49ers gave Seattle a tough time at CenturyLink Field in Week 2, and will look to build on that at home. C.J. Beathard will get the start against a banged-up Seahawks defense. The 49ers are a 6.5-point underdog, and are actually 5-5 against the spread this season. I’d like to think this game could be a close one, but I just don’t know what to make of Seattle right now. I’m inclined to lay the points, but I just don’t know.
In the meantime, we get a three-game slate of Thanksgiving football today, and then plenty more action on Sunday. Bye weeks are finished, and so, with that in mind, it’s time once again to ponder options in NFL Survivor pools. I was knocked out of my own double elimination pool thanks to back-to-back picks of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos in Weeks 6 and 7. That ended ... poorly.
The high profile choices this week are the Pittsburgh Steelers at home against the Green Bay Packers, and the New England Patriots at home against the Miami Dolphins. Some other options including Philadelphia hosting Chicago and Kansas City hosting Buffalo.
Today, we get the traditional tripleheader. The Minnesota Vikings are a field goal road favorite against the Detroit Lions, kicking off at 9:30 a.m. PT. That is followed by the Los Angeles Chargers installed as a 2.5-point road favorite against the Dallas Cowboys. Finally, Washington is a 7.5-point home favorite against the New York Giants to wrap up the day. I’m going with the Lions and Washington winning at home, and the Chargers winning on the road. However, I think the Giants cover against Washington.
