I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hopefully everyone is not in such a hurry to get out to Black Friday events this morning that they don’t have time for today's hot links?
Here’s a quick glance at some of my thoughts on this year’s draft picks:
I really did not want to see us draft Solomon but he has grown on me. I did not expect much from him so he has not had any trouble living up to my expectations. Overall, I think he has done what I would expect a rookie to do but there have been a few glimpses that have really impressed me. He is very quick, way quicker than what I saw from his college videos. I really expect Thomas and Buckner to cause some problems for opposing offensive lines next season. Especially with DJ Jones in the middle.
Reuben Foster is the real deal. I expect him to be a star for years to come. He impressed me in college and he has impressed me even more with the 49ers. I didn’t think we would draft him due to some of the problems that came up before the draft but I was extremely happy when we did.
Ahkello Witherspoon was one of my three draft crushes along with Hooker and Joe Williams so you know I was happy when we picked him. He had me worried for a little while earlier in the season but he has stepped up and I only expect him to keep on getting better. He has some pretty sweet feet.
CJ Beathard speaks for himself. He is starting and he has shown some major guts. I don’t think we'll really know what we have until we can provide him with an offensive line that does not try to get him killed on a weekly basis.
Joe Williams had some trouble with fumbles in training camp and he seemed a lot more comfortable running the ball outside than up the middle. LIke I said earlier, he was one of my draft crushes and I hope he gets a chance to prove himself next season.
George Kittle has had some problems with drops this year. That is surprising when you look at his college stats. I hope he can gain a little more confidence because I really think he can be one of the better tight ends in the league.
It is only a matter of time until Trent Taylor takes over a game. He is so quick, I think there will come a time when he will be almost unstoppable on quick passes over the middle.
DJ Jones was another player I really wanted to see us draft. I forget who was big on us drafting DJ Jones last year but he completely convinced me and I think he was completely right based on the small amount I have seen of him. I fully expect him to beat out Earl MItchell next year. His improvement should be a huge help for Buckner and Thomas playing on either side of him.
I really don’t know much about PIta? Maybe I should be paying closer attention?
I think Adrian Colbert has a future with the 49ers. Whether he can ever win a starting role remains to be seen but he is an inexpensive backup that I am more than happy to have around.
There you have it, short and sweet with a sprinkling of homer. Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend. Now onto the hot links:
