And just like that, Jimmy Garoppolo made his San Francisco 49ers debut. C.J. Beathard took a hard hit with 1:07 remaining in Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and Garoppolo came on in his place.
Garoppolo got three snaps to close out the game, and he made the most of them. He scrambled four yards on his first snap. After a false start, he completed a nine-yard pass to convert a 4th and 6. On his third snap, as time expired, he scrambled and then completed a ten-yard touchdown pass to Louis Murphy. You can watch the touchdown pass above.
It remains to be seen what happens next with Garoppolo. Does he make his starting debut next week in his hometown of Chicago? Or does Beathard get back in? Garoppolo did a lot in his limited work, but it was also sort of a fire drill type situation. It’s fun to get excited about it, but it’s hard to get a firm handle on where this thing goes next.
