The San Francisco 49ers are set to promote a promising youngster off the practice squad for Week 9. Rookie offensive tackle Darrell Williams is set to join the 53-man roster, his agent told Matt Barrows. He will likely take the spot of Garry Gilliam, once the 49ers place the latter on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Williams had a solid preseason, and while it did not secure him a roster spot, it did land him on the practice squad. He played primarily right tackle, but likely has had looks at both sides when needed in practice. He joins a line that will be without Joe Staley at left tackle, and reserve Garry Gilliam at right tackle.

Trent Brown will be back this week, and is expected to move over to left tackle while Staley is out. Zane Beadles will play right tackle, with Williams serving as the swing tackle. Right guard Brandon Fusco will play, but has been banged up the past couple weeks. If he gets hurt again, Beadles would likely move inside, and Williams would take over at right tackle.
