The San Francisco 49ers were busy this week, trading away a second round draft pick for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, and acquiring a fifth round draft pick in exchange for cornerback Rashard Robinson. The two trades leave the 49ers with nine draft picks, including four in the first three rounds.
The folks over at Draft Wire put together a three-round mock draft following the trade deadline, and I thought we would use that to get us ready for Week 10 of the college football season. Here are the four 49ers picks from those three rounds, with their Week 10 matchup in parenthesis.
1 (2): Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State (@ No. 24 Michigan State, 9 a.m. FOX)
2 (54): Dante Pettis, WR, Washington (vs. Oregon, 7 p.m. FS1)
3 (66): Mason Cole, OL, Michigan (vs. Minnesota, 4:30 p.m. FOX)
3 (72): Kevin Toliver II, CB, LSU (@ No. 2 Alabama, 5 p.m. CBS)
The 49ers need some significant upgrades on offense. Now that Jimmy Garoppolo is in the fold, a Saquon Barkley pick would not be all that surprising. I am still unsure that Kyle Shanahan would want a running back that high, but if they think he can be a true stud, so be it.
The Cole pick is an interesting one. He played left tackle this year, but has played all around the offensive line, including center last season. Daniel Kilgore is a free agent after this season, and given the importance of the center position in Kyle Shanahan’s offense, it makes sense that he would want to try and upgrade at the position.
It should be a fun day of college football now that the playoff rankings are out. No. 1 Georgia hosts South Carolina at 12:30 on CBS, and as mentioned above, No. 2 Alabama hosts No. 19 LSU. No. 3 Notre Dame is hosting Wake Forest at 12:30, and No. 4 Clemson is traveling to NC State at 12:30. There will be plenty of busy action at 12:30 p.m. PT today!
