The San Francisco 49ers return to practice on Wednesday, but we already know some players who will not be playing this weekend. Head coach Kyle Shanahan met with the media on Monday and he announced that Elijah Lee, Trent Taylor, and George Kittle will all be sidelined this weekend against the New York Giants.
Shanahan said that Taylor suffered a broken rib on a non-contact play, and the hope is he can return later this season. The 49ers signed Louis Murphy earlier today, and while he is not a slot receiver, he will allow the 49ers to move other wide receivers around.
Kittle suffered an ankle injury, and Shanahan was appreciative of him fighting throughout. The team is also going to place Cole Hikutini on injured reserve with an MCL injury. That leaves them incredibly short-handed at tight end, so look for the team to add a body before the end of the week. Shanahan also announced plans to place Jaquiski Tartt (arm) and Garry Gilliam (MCL) on injured reserve. There will be a few more roster changes to compensate for all the injuries.
